Exhibition at WBGO, and more!!

"Stolen Moments," an exhibition of my black and white photographs, went up at the gallery of the premiere jazz station, WBGO radio, last week, and will be on view until January 30, 2008.
( check out:
The exhibit includes pictures I've made behind the scenes--at recording sessions, rehearsals, even weddings. There's Paquito Rivera napping with his clarinet; Trio da Paz on a balcony in Anguilla, rehearsing in the shorts and flipflops; Cyrus Chestnut rehearsing in the Steinway showroom; vocalist Carla Cook helping Regina Carter get ready for her wedding; and lots, lots more!
Check it out!!

And I'm just back from being the official photographer on the marvelous Jazz Cruise,
a week in the Caribbean on the m/s Westerdam, working with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Kevin Mahogany, Wycliffe Gordon,Ken Peplowski, Andy Bey, Nnenna Freelon, Houston Person, The Heath Brothers and many more jazz greats. Just sent to the printer a 30-page book of photos from the cruise that will be distributed later this month.

it's been a busy season!

My exhibition at BAM was a big success. Literally thousands of people visited iduring the month long show. And what a thrill to have "cover guy" Grady Tate at the party, despite some of the worst weather of the New York winter.

The previous week, I photographed the annual Music on the Mountain party at the beautiful Mohonk Mountain Resort in the Catskills. Among the musicians, Dena DeRose, Frank Vignola, Kendra Shank, Frank Kimbrough (my portrait of Frank appeared in the January 10 issue of Time Out NY), Eric Lawrence, Maria Lawrence Hart, Rene Hart and Steve Bernstein. Weekend host Michael Bourne of WBGO sets a really high standard and everyone has lots of fun.

The minute the party for the BAM show was over, I headed out to Portland , Oregon to photograph the jazz festival there, which featured Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Nancy King, Kurt Elling, Bela Fleck, the SF Jazz Collective, Bill Charlap, Anat Cohen, Joshua Redman, the Classical Jazz Quartet, and literally hundreds of other acts--of both local and international note--around the city over a ten day period.

Just determining how best to let you see these up-dates. In the meantime, contact me at if you'd like a private viewing of any of the photos. (Meanwhile, you can check out next month's DownBeat review of the Cecil Taylor gig to see my photo of Taylor.)
