Fran Kaufman is a photographer who has worked primarily with musicians. For many years she followed the jazz world with her camera, trying to capture the moment in performance, in rehearsal, and in recording sessions, and wherever musicians were just hanging out. At jazz clubs, festivals, and cruises, she photographed a wide array of musicians — from Tony Bennett to Cecil Taylor.

For many years she was the photographer for the daily WBGO blog (New York/New Jersey’s premiere jazz radio station) where her photos ran daily on the website and in an exhibition in the station’s gallery, as well as at an exhibition at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Her photos have also been selected for the covers of both jazz and classical CDs, including for Cyrus Chestnut and Jennifer Koh.

A new book of her jazz photographs is in the works.

Fran lives in Manhattan and is currently focusing on creative personal projects with her photography.
